Test Results

We receive several hundred test results every single day.    These are all checked by a healthcare professional at Dollar Health Centre.   If you have an abnormal result that requires action, we will normally check that you have made a review appointment, or we will proactively contact you to discuss the result.

It is not possible to contact everyone who has a test result, but we will add an appropriate comment to all results to indicate if it is normal or whether any further action is required.   If you have not heard anything about a test or investigation which we have organised, then please phone the health centre and ask our receptionist to check for you.   Most blood tests are analysed or reported within 1 week, x-ray results are usually 10 -14 days although some may take longer.  If possible please phone after 3pm when the phonelines are less busy.

If your test or scan has been book and arranged by a hospital doctor, eg. Blood results, scan results, pathology samples; these results are always sent back to the hospital doctor that requested them. It is then the hospital doctors responsibility to contact you with the results. We usually do not have these results until after they have discussed them with you at a clinic appointment.

The GP practice does not have access to hospital appointments or results. If you have any concerns regarding the date/time/follow-up/results from your hospital appointment, please call the hospital appointments team or the department secretaries via Switchboard on 01324 566 000).

The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection.  We will only give test results to the patient named on the result.  Results would only be given to someone else if the patient has given prior permission for the result to be given to a named person or if the patient is not capable of understanding the results.
