Home Visits

Home VisitsHouse visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.  If there is any way that you can attend the GP practice then this is preferable for the following reasons:

  • some medical equipment and investigations are not transportable and so not available at home
  • it is only possible to take a summary of your medical record on a home visit, and so relevant clinical information may not be available
  • home visits take considerably more time for the doctor or nurse, which reduces the overall capacity for us to provide healthcare

However we realise that there are occasions when a home visit is necessary.   To help us plan our day, please phone reception to request a home visit before 11am on the day that it is required.    Home visit requests coming in after this time may need to wait until the following day (unless it is an emergency).

A doctor or nurse may phone you back following a home visit request - as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone or video, or that it would be more appropriate to send a community nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.
